The short version

There are no user accounts and no sign-up. You are never asked for your name, email address or any other personal detail in order to use any tool on this site. Your test results are not sent anywhere — they are calculated in your browser and stay there.

What is collected is standard website analytics, in aggregate, plus the ordinary server records any website keeps.

Test results and local storage

The tools on this site store your personal best scores using your browser’s local storage. That data never leaves your device, is not transmitted to this site or anyone else, and cannot be read by us. Clearing your browser’s site data deletes it. Using a private or incognito window means it is discarded when you close the window.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand which pages are visited and how the site performs overall. This sets cookies and collects information such as approximate location, device and browser type, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the site. It is used in aggregate to improve the site, not to identify individuals.

Google Search Console is also used, which reports on how the site appears in Google search results. It does not identify individual visitors.

You can prevent analytics collection with a browser extension, a privacy-focused browser, or your browser’s own tracking protection. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.

Server logs

Like effectively every website, the hosting server keeps access logs containing IP addresses, request times, requested pages and user-agent strings. These are used for security and diagnosing technical problems, and are retained only as long as is useful for that purpose.

Third parties that receive data

• Google — Analytics and Search Console, as described above.
• Google Fonts — the site’s typefaces load from Google’s servers, which means your browser makes a request to Google and your IP address is visible to them as part of that request.
• The hosting provider — which necessarily processes requests to serve the site.
• Anti-spam filtering — if commenting is available on a page, submitted content is checked by a spam-filtering service to block automated spam.

Cookies

Cookies used here fall into two groups: analytics cookies set by Google, and any functional cookies WordPress sets if you interact with a comment form. There are no advertising cookies set by this site. Affiliate links, where present, may set a cookie from the retailer — see the affiliate disclosure.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Comments

If a page allows comments and you leave one, the comment text, the name and email you supply, and your IP address are stored so the comment can be displayed and checked for spam. Do not include anything in a comment you would not want public.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access to personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to certain processing. Because this site does not operate accounts and does not ask for personal details, there is usually very little to act on — but requests are welcome at the address below and will be handled.

For analytics data specifically, Google acts as the processor, and their own privacy controls and opt-out tools apply in addition to anything done here.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date at the top. Material changes will be reflected in the summary rather than buried.
